About Paula

I’m Paula Jenkins, a qualified Art Therapist, practising artist www.paulajenkinsart.com and Master of Counselling candidate.

My journey into therapeutic work grew naturally from my own art practice and an understanding of the powerful role creativity can play in processing experiences, emotions and change.

Over the past several years, I have worked therapeutically with children, adolescents and adults in both individual and group settings. My experience includes working as an Art Therapist and Artist-in-Residence with BackTrack Youth Works in Armidale, delivering school-based art therapy and wellbeing programs, working as the Wellbeing Art Specialist at PLC Armidale, and providing individual therapeutic support to adults experiencing personal, emotional and life challenges.

Through this work, I have supported people from diverse backgrounds and life experiences, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people from culturally diverse communities. I value culturally respectful and inclusive practice, recognising that each person brings their own identity, culture, experiences, values and strengths to the therapeutic space.

Much of my professional work has involved supporting young people experiencing anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, relationship and friendship difficulties, disengagement, trauma and challenging life circumstances. As a mother of two teenagers, I also bring a personal understanding of the changes, pressures and complexities that can accompany adolescence and family life.

I believe therapy should recognise and support the whole person, rather than simply focusing on a problem or diagnosis. My approach is warm, collaborative and person-centred, providing a space where clients can feel heard, respected and supported without judgement.
